More bunny love, slowly but surely… unfortunately it seems to have stopped multiplying at a rabbit-like pace. I’m not sure if the sweater is just coming really slowly all of a sudden, or if I’m just smitten by another project.

You see, this argyle sweater is the apple of my eye:
I have a vision of argyle right now - argyle in camel-colored alpaca with diamonds in terracotta and cream and chocolate brown embroidered lines.  You can read all about my new obsession here.  …Fickle, knitting makes me. (And evidently it occasionally makes me talk like Yoda as well.) So there’s an inch and a half of ribbing left to go on BunnyLove and all day I have been totally unable to get myself to do it. Here’s the forlornly abandoned front with an Odalisque by Zoot (note the haughty way he refuses to turn around for the camera, at least once he figured out that treats were not in the offing.)

Bunny love, continued

Posted on Monday 26 June 2006

The angora is nicely (and quickly!) transforming itself into Pinup Queen from the first SNB book. It’s thick, fuzzy stuff - thank God it hasn’t been that hot out, or I’d suffocate knitting this. I will thank the me of August when it rolls around to being the me of December and I have this sweater to wear.

So variety’s the spice of life, right? And what’s life without a little spice? I cast on for the Estonian Garden lace stole as well:

That’s Zephyr Wool-Silk there, a gigantic 1 lb. cone with a whopping 5,040 yards. I got it in vanilla on the theory that I could dye it and then knit my next three shawls with it - it’s a little intimidating on its enormous cone, but I have faith that I’ll eventually knit the stuff up.

More later after my brain unfreezes! I must be just having a little intellectual petit mal going on lately.

The lovely and delightful Domestic Overlord offered up this quiz on what pinup girl you are… and I came out with this:

Pin up queen, or not?

Rita HayworthSpicy and sweet like General Tso’s chicken. Not only are you famous for being gourgess but also for covering the hole that got that guy out of Shawshank.

finished object: ManlyMan socks

Posted on Wednesday 21 June 2006

You might think that I spend all my time fucking around on the Interweb instead of actually doing any knitting. Not true! There are many pots on the stove here at the Kitchener Bitch - and some have been boiling for a long, long time. To spur myself on through the shame of public exposure, soon I’ll put up my latest works in progress here. But first - an actual finished object! Behold the ManlyMan socks, intended as a gift for Mr. KB:

(That’s Floyd, my little devil’s minion hairy monster sweet little kittycat, sniffing the sock - for some reason he thought they were frightening. Do they scare you too?) I called them Manlyman socks because I wanted to assuage any misgivings Mr. KB might have about wearing a “lacy” pattern. As it stands, they’re sort of cable-y looking, and certainly they’re the model of rugged individualism:

Certainly Mr. KB can wear them with his testosterone intact, resting easy in the knowledge that these socks are Not Really Lacy. The yarn is Patons Kroy, in two colors (I ran out at the toe - you know what they say about big feet.)

Update: here’s a pic of Mr. KB’s tootsies in the socks themselves!

do you like bunnies? I like bunnies

First, before we say another word: check out this extreme cuteness, courtesy of Cute Overload:

and now close your eyes and imagine petting that wee little fluffball in the palm of your hand. Got it? …that’s what my new angora yarn feels like - it’s Elsebeth Lavold Angora in turquoise - and it feels like a luxurious baby pet.

This yarn is a real pleasure to work with. It’s gratifyingly fuzzy and soft, without even a hint of scratchiness. And unlike every other blessed project I’ve been working on, it doesn’t have to be knit at 8 stitches to the inch!
I plan to turn it into my 2nd shot at Pinup Queen, the Annie Modesitt pattern from the first Stitch n Bitch book. I’ve made this sweater once before, but it was the first adult sweater I’d ever made, and it came out perfect but about ten sizes too big. I thought you were supposed to pick the same bust size you’d pick for sewn clothing, not realizing that a sweater (especially one named Pinup Queen) ought to stretch over the body and be a little tight. I have fantasies about steeking every last seam and putting it back together as a smaller sweater, but I haven’t gotten the wontons to start cutting yet. I like the design enough that I wouldn’t mind having two in different colors, just in case I actually got up the gumption to cut the first one and just in case my diabolical steeking plan actually worked.

Moving right along - only 21 more inches of 2×2 rib to go. Hopefully my Knitting ADD won’t be too bad - do I ever need a knitting machine!
