The whole Kitchener Bitch household is down for the count with a nasty cold, but I thought I’d post some feeble proof that we’re all still alive. Here, then, are some things I’ve been working on between hacking and coughing.

Meet the Blanket of Procrastination. Yes, it’s the log cabin pattern from Mason-Dixon Knitting, and it’s all I can seem to knit in the face of some other very serious knitting deadlines right now. What to do when you’ve got to knit a sweater by the end of the month on size 4 needles? Why, start a queen sized blanket, of course! For added effect I’ve decided to make it entirely out of my own handspun… how’s that for supreme avoidance?

I won’t even post pictures of the Argyle of Doom, as it’s come to be known over here. Let’s just say that my progress on the second side is so negligible as to not deserve publication.

In other news, we had a very strange visitor in the house yesterday. Lisa and I were sitting around when we heard a loud flapping sound and we discovered this guy:

He’s huge - that’s a 16 oz jelly jar he’s under - and the pictures don’t do justice to him. He was bright green - much more so than the pic implies - and his wings looked EXACTLY like young, tender leaves. Here’s Lisa with the bug, just for scale:

Next time I post, hopefully I’ll be able to hold my head up longer so I can actually have knit something more substantial. Until then cheerio and look out for big beautiful bugs!

Oh I was there in the fisrt attempts of procratination… Oh how it has grown. But to help you transform from a nervios nelly, I have your vintage hat done. I am hoping I will see you on tuesday so that I can give it to you and you won’t cough on me… just kidding. But really don’t cough on me.

OH and about the bug.. I have made an aquantance of a similar sort and he is on my website. Check him out. I want to knit him a top hat and make him a little cane.

Hope you’re feeling better soon. That flying bug is scary yet beautiful at the same time. I hope you freed him to his own habitat.

Your visitor looks like a cicada to me. When we were kids, we used to chase each other around with the shells they cast off when they molted, but I’ve hardly ever seen the bug itself. They always look vaguely prehistoric to me.

I love procrastination projects :) (And the idea to knit a blanket from your own handspun!)

That’s a big ol’ katydid ya got there! Those bite like hell, unlike cicadas that don’t do much except make noise.

I’ve been wondering about the whereabouts of the Argyle of Doom. Knit, dammit!

I so know what you mean with the procrastinating. But at least you’ve got a cool side-project to show for it.
And I don’t even have the excuse of being laid low with the lurgy, but I’ve certainly contracted the procrastinating virus, documented here:

It’s all part of the other procrastination tactic of writing about one’s procrastination.

  8. Batty Says:

Oh, no! I hope you feel better soon.

  9. Sarah Says:

I too am the procrastination queen!

    Good luck with the argyle!

Nice handspun! How long you think til you have a whole blankie worth?

Wow, that reminds me of the plague of locusts chapters in Little House on the Prairie!

    The blanket looks way cool.

Love that log cabin!!!! What a great idea!

Kristen, that’s a katydid! They make summer nights summery by yakking back and forth with their cousins the katydidn’ts. Don’t know what Katy did or didn’t, but I found one of those so fat on basil leaves it could hardly walk out of the dishpan.

Never heard of one biting, but I use the grab and fling method of getting them off the porch. Anything more than that it’s get a glass and a 3 x 5 card.

What did yo do with it?
