so I just thought I’d pop in to say thank you to all the people who helped me figure out how to get a gallery going on Wordpress (or at least on my website) - I am busy populating it with images now and promise lots to come in the next weeks and months. For now, here’s a tiny taste of two sketches of vintage baby goodies from the 40s, for your edification:

A knitted elephant toy, from the late 40s, and
A 1951 hat/scarf combo with darling kitten ears and pink tiger stripes. If you’re particularly interested in baby knits, leave a comment and I would love to have your feedback on a collection I’m putting together!
Meanwhile, back at the ranch, Zoot is good (if somewhat off his food today for some reason - no, he didn’t get any food from the horrible pet food recall) and we’re doing even better. It’s 55 out today! Which, given the weather around here, is like 100 in the shade. More later… I wish I had some knitting content but I have been bad bad bad, my friends.
In the meantime, any suggestions on learning to crochet? I accidentally signed up for a Lily Chin class thinking it was for crochet, but it turns out it’s for crochet - and instead of trying to unenroll my plan is to TEACH MYSELF CROCHET FAST. I’ll be publishing swatches, as soon as I can get a handle on this chain stitch thingy… I can navajo ply, so I ought to be able to do it, right?

I’d love to see a collection of baby knits — the sketches you posted are adorable! The hat, especially, rocks. I’m especially interested in baby sweaters with decent sleeves (either set-in or raglan); drop-shoulder sleeves just don’t do it for me. Babies aren’t square any more than we are, you know?

Can’t wait to see how those look all made up!
And you’ll definitely learn crochet faster than me. It’s been over 20 years and I’m still trying.

I need that hat.

The hat it cute, yes, but I LOVE the elephant! It’s adorable.
You’ll pick up crochet quick, I’m sure. And crochet itself is quick, once learned. I find it hard to teach old crochet-ers to knit, because they’re disappointed at how much time knitting takes.

OOOh! I want that hat! What weight yarn is it in? I’d modify for Opal Tiger for the boys I think - they’d love to wear that to a football game!

The hat is adorable! I can’t wait to see the pattern. I’m guessing it’ll be in fingering or sport weight, right?
If you can navajo ply, then you know the chain, at least. Just pretend the hook is your hand. That Lily Chin class wouldn’t happen to be the converting your favorite garments to Crochet class at TNNA in Columbus, would it?

I can’t seem to wrap my mind around crochet. I love that hat/scarf combo. Does it come in grown-up size too? I’d love a mother/daughter matching set.

Love the hat cant wait to see the pattern. I am interested in baby knits and that is almost all I knit. I love to knit hats and booties with an occasional sweater or two. Glad to see Zoot is doing great.

I love knitting vintage baby patterns - would love the pattern for that gorgeous hat and can’t wait to see the collection you’re putting together. I scour the second hand shops, charity stalls and websites for vintage baby patterns. Good luck!
